Matt Family Orchard, a family owned and operated company provides quality berries and fruit trees to the amateur grower or experienced orchardist. We sell the most trouble free fruit tree varieties for your horticultural and eating pleasure. And provide nursery stock throughout the year. During the wintertime we ship bareroot trees and berries, as well as graft wood and buds from our own orchard. The rest of the year we provide potted trees and berries. Nursery trees are blueberries, blackberries, figs, Asian persimmon, Asian pear, jujube (Asian dates), satsumas and sppecial orders.
Planting instructions for persimmon; find a well drained sunny location, dig a hole two to three times the size of the root system. Place the tree in the hole, fill half full with the dirt from the hole, pack the dirt around the roots and water in well. Then fill the hole with the rest of the dirt, water in again. Be sure not to plant the tree above graft. I do not recommend adding improved soil or using fertilizer at the time of planting. I suggest cutting the tree back to 4 foot and develop 3 equally spaced limbs around the trunk. Remove weeds and grass and mulch on top of the ground around the tree. Water as needed. Fertilize at a rate of one pound per inch of trunk diameter, give 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 in May, July and September.
